Which Thyroid Nodules Require Puncture Biopsy Needle
Jan 12, 2023
Indications for fine needle puncture biopsy of thyroid nodule. In the ATA, released in 2009, all nodules > 5mm were indicative of puncture. The 2015 ATA guidelines for the United States recommend thyroid nodules > 1cm, all of which indicate puncture. Combined with the actual national conditions of China, nodule > 1cm is a clear indication of thyroid nodule puncture biopsy. Nodule < 1cm, which may be associated with thyroid cancer is also recommended for thyroid needle biopsy. In males < 20 years old or > 70 years old, single nodules are suspected to be malignant, such as those with calcification, irregular borders, rich blood flow, uneven echo, poor texture, and cervical lymph node metastases. Although the nodules are < 1cm, they are associated with high risk factors for thyroid cancer, and clinicians usually recommend fine-needle needle biopsy of the thyroid.
