The first step is to determine the puncture site, which is generally located in the anterior superior iliac spine or posterior superior spine, and the lumbar spinous process, roughly at the raised position of the waist or back of the human body.
The second step is to put the puncture site under local anesthesia and sterilize it.
The third step is to puncture the bone marrow cavity vertically with a puncture needle and extract a small amount of bone marrow fluid for detection.
The fourth step is to bandage the puncture site.
The whole process is only ten minutes, during which there will be slight bleeding phenomenon. After surgery, when the anesthetic wears off, there will be a slight pain at the piercing site, and the discomfort will disappear within three days to a week.
When a bone marrow biopsy is required, it is generally to identify the blood diseases more clearly, such as aplastic anemia (AA), thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), etc.
