Types of Stainless Steel Tube Manufacturing Services

End Forming

Tubes that are spun closed at the ends and welded closed to meet the end configuration required by the application are called end forming. Round, flat or pointed tips are usually required. It is necessary to test the tube for porosity or leaks. Special processes and tools must be used to achieve repeatability of end-formed tube connections.

Flaring/Flanging

Flaring is done with a special tool to gradually expand the end of the tube outward. Flanging is done to create an angled bulge or 90 degree edge at the end of the tube. Like end forming, flaring requires special tools, procedures, and testing.

Expansion/Reduction

Expansion or contraction of the tube is achieved by welding, using a plug or a mandrel drawing process (to smooth the weld and set the wall thickness). The process continues with several sinks (reduction) then welding, then several plugs or mandrel pulling to complete the tube to the customer's specification. Each of these processes has its specific application.

Closed-end

Closed end tubes are swivel closed or welded closed in a variety of end configurations, including round, flat or pointed.

Bulging/Bending

Using a special tool on the inside diameter of 316 stainless steel pipe, it is possible to "bump" the pipe for some unique applications.

Notching

Notching is done to create symmetrical holes in a tube for medical applications by using a piercing or Wire EDM.

Slotting

Slotting uses Wire EDM operations to cut precision slots for raw stainless precision medical tubing.

Dimpling

Dimpling is when a section of material is offset to create a dimple or series of dimples in a tube.
