"A trocar needle... is a medical device that is made up of an obturator (which may be a metal or plastic sharpened or non-bladed tip), a cannula (basically a hollow tube), and a seal" Well obturator links to "(surgery) An object used to obstruct a hole, such as a fissure of the palate.". So a trocar is defined as 'a seal (which may be sharpened metal or plastic), a tube and a seal', which makes little sense. My best guess is that by obturator, what is meant is a seal that can be opened (but then the seal on the other end must be openable) once the sharp part has penetrated the skin (or whatever).
