How An H₂O₂ Transfer Needle Manufacturer Uses Surface Engineering To Prevent Corrosion & Particulate Contamination

Jul 10, 2026

Both ID and OD of the H₂O₂ Transfer Needle require exceptional surface cleanliness and corrosion resistance: the exterior contacts H₂O₂ droplets/vapor (must resist pitting); the interior conveys H₂O₂ (must not shed particles or harbor crevices where crystals form/decompose). Electropolishing (EP) is a Special Process.

EP Principle & ASTM B912 Compliance

Workpiece made anode in phosphoric‑sulfuric electrolyte; micro‑peaks dissolve preferentially (peak current density), smoothing the surface and enriching chromium-typical removal 0.5–2.5 µm (controllable within ±0.0001″/2.5 µm class). ASTM B912 specifies solution makeup, parameters, and post‑rinse requirements. Compliant manufacturers perform IQ/OQ/PQ: OQ determines current density–temperature–time window to reach target Ra (usually < 0.2 µm) and passive film thickness; PQ demonstrates reproducibility over three consecutive lots.

Particulate Control Significance

Vaporized H₂O₂ with entrained metallic particles can cause arcing in the plasma field or deposit on chamber sensor windows. EP removes micro‑burrs, grind marks, and swage fold‑lines, greatly reducing in‑use particle shedding. After ultrasonic cleaning, final rinse water is passed through 0.22–0.45 µm membrane; particulates are weighed/counted microscopically against an AQL limit (e.g., ≤ N particles/needle).

Passivation Synergy

Immediately post‑EP, citric acid passivation (nitric‑free or low‑nitric to align with RoHS/REACH preferences) promotes re‑growth of the Cr₂O₃ passive layer. Fe²⁺ in the passivation bath is monitored to prevent saturation and loss of effectiveness. The combination "EP + Passivation" is standard for H₂O₂ wetted parts.

Inspection & Characterization

Surface roughness tester: Ra / Rz (typical Ra 0.10–0.20 µm)

Ferroxyl test / potassium ferricyanide spot test for free iron removal

Salt spray (ASTM B117), typically 24–48 h no red rust

SEM/EDS spot check for increased surface Cr/Fe ratio confirming passivation

Ask for the EP validation report, particulate control data, and salt spray records-a factory that only says "we polished it" without data poses unnecessary risk.
