The results of arthroscopic surgery can reduce the chance of recurrence to less than 10 to 20 percent in these patients with a high recurrence rate. Conservative rehabilitation, on the other hand, does not respond well to chronic posttraumatic dislocation, with a success rate of less than 20%. However, if these lesions are corrected surgically, the torn ligaments are sutured and the loose joint capsule is tightened. After surgery, the shoulder sling is used to protect the joints for two to four weeks, and passive joint activity is initiated, muscle strength training is initiated at eight weeks, daily living activities are resumed at twelve weeks, and movement is resumed at four to six months. We have a 95% success rate over the last 10 years. In recent years, we have begun to use arthroscopic surgery for treatment, in addition to the aforementioned patients with the first shoulder dislocation in the acute phase, but also for some patients with chronic dislocation whose lesions are not too serious for repair. The benefits of arthroscopic surgery are smaller wounds (three small holes), less pain after surgery, easier rehabilitation, less stiffness, and easier restoration of normal range of motion and function. The short-term results were similar to those of open surgery.
