These needles are designed for fine needle aspiration (FNA), biopsy (removal of tissue for pathological analysis), and drainage of lesions in the digestive system, lungs, and lymph nodes. They are especially useful for diagnosing conditions like pancreatic cancer, gastrointestinal disorders, and lymphatic diseases.

 

Endoscopic ultrasound plays a key role in diagnosing chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic tumors, bile duct stones, and duodenal papilla (ampullary) lesions. It is highly sensitive, particularly when detecting small lesions. For acute pancreatitis, endoscopic ultrasound can precisely identify small gallstones, bile duct stones, ampullary tumors, and early-stage chronic pancreatitis. However, the echoes from inflammation in acute pancreatitis can sometimes be misinterpreted.

 

Studies show that endoscopic ultrasound provides the same high accuracy as CT scans (100%) for detecting pancreatic enlargement, inflammatory exudates, and parenchymal necrosis in acute pancreatitis.
