Is it reliable to use lumbar puncture needle?

Lumbar puncture is one of the commonly used clinical examination methods. It is of great value, simple and easy, and relatively safe for the diagnosis and treatment of central invasion of hematologic tumors and nervous system diseases. However, if the indications are not properly controlled, the original condition may be aggravated in minor cases, and the safety of patients may even be endangered in severe cases. Lumbar puncture is often used to examine the nature of cerebrospinal fluid, which is of great significance for the diagnosis of meningitis, cerebrovascular disease, brain tumor and other neurological diseases. Sometimes it can also be used for intrathecal injection of drugs, as well as to measure intracranial pressure and to know whether the subarachnoid space is blocked. It is a technique to release CSF through puncture of the 3rd ~ 4th lumbar vertebra or the 4th ~ 5th lumbar interspace into the subarachnoid space. Normal CSF has certain pressure, cellular composition and chemical composition, which can cause changes in CSF composition and pressure when the central nervous system is diseased. These changes can be understood through the examination of CSF through lumbar puncture.
