Before selecting the oxidation process, we should have an understanding of aluminum or aluminum alloy material, because the quality of the material, the composition of the different, will directly affect the quality of aluminum products after anodic oxidation. For example, aluminum surface defects such as bubbles, scratches, peeling, rough, after anodizing, all defects will still be revealed. The composition of the alloy also has a direct effect on the surface appearance after anodic oxidation. Aluminum alloy containing copper, silicon, iron and other impurities on the surface appearance of the oxide film performance is as follows: copper will make the oxide film red, damage the quality of the electrolyte, increase the oxidation defects; Silicon will make the oxide film gray, especially when the content is more than 4.5%, the effect is more obvious; Due to its own characteristics, iron will exist in the form of black spots after anodizing.
In addition, other impurities in the alloy have an effect on the appearance of the oxide film: aluminum alloy with 1-2% manganese is brown-blue after oxidation. With the increase of manganese content in the aluminum, the surface color after oxidation changes from brown-blue to dark brown. Aluminum alloy containing 0.6 -- 1.5% silicon is gray after oxidation, and white gray when containing 3 -- 6% silicon. Those containing zinc have an opaque color, those containing chromium have an uneven hue of golden to gray, and those containing nickel have a pale yellow. Generally speaking, only aluminum containing magnesium and titanium content of more than 5% gold, after oxidation can get colorless transparent and bright, smooth appearance.
It should be noted that some profiles appearance to make different colors, these colors are not oxidized, but aluminum after anodic oxidation, dyeing or electrolytic coloring formed. Dyeing basically any color, and electrolytic coloring is less, can do, black, bronze, champagne, golden yellow, imitation stainless steel color.
