In the room temperature polishing process, these fragile parts form activated small anodes, while the surrounding areas become large cathodes, which are electrochemically etched into pinholes or pores. These corrosion, in turn, create stress concentrations that allow corrosion to develop deeper and eventually penetrate the metal. In addition, the cracks in the polishing process can easily form anodic activation zone, and the corrosion along the gap increases.
