Resistive thermistors immersed in the liquid level transmitter body and most of the gases, usually sealed, at least to coating, exposed resistance elements can be immersed in conductive or contaminated fluids, when its rapid response is required, they are used in dry air and limit several gases and some of the liquid level transmitter body. Resistive elements in stagnant or slow flowing fluids usually require some kind of housing for mechanical protection.

When flat enclosed tubes, conduits or containers can be opened or forbidden to open because probes or thermocouple bushing can be used, access and measurement by external wall clamps or fixed surface temperature sensors. To ensure reasonable measurement accuracy, the sensor must be isolated from ambient atmospheric heat and from heat sources, and the heat conduction of the wall to the sensitive element must be optimized by the sensor's proper design and installation.
