A mercury thermometer usually consists of a liquid glass temperature bag, a capillary tube, a scale scale and a glass case, as shown in the figure below. A thermometer made from the thermoelectric properties of a thermocouple is called a thermocouple latitude meter. The diagram below shows the composition of the simplest thermocouple thermometer. The thermocouple in the figure is A temperature sensing element, which is formed by welding (or stranding) one end of two conductors A and B of different materials. The unwelded ends of the conductor are connected with the display instrument through the connecting wire and constitute a temperature measuring system. When measuring the temperature, the welding end of the thermocouple is in contact with the object to be measured, and the temperature of the object to be measured is converted into the corresponding electrical signal by using the thermoelectric properties of the thermocouple, which is transmitted to the display instrument.
