Mandibular nerve is the third branch of trigeminal nerve, which is composed of sensory and motor nerve roots. After exiting the skull through foramen ovale, it enters the infratemporal fossa, and conducts the sensory information of parotid gland and submandibular gland, oral floor and tongue mucosa, lower teeth and gingiva, mandibular joint, skin under the lower lip, temporal region, preauricular region and part of external auditory canal. Infratemporal fossa is an irregular space behind the body of maxilla and zygomatic bone, which contains pterygium and extralar muscles, mandibular nerve, maxillary artery and other structures. The anterior wall is the body of maxilla and zygomatic bone, the inner wall is the lateral plate of pterygoid process, the outer wall is the mandibular ramus, the top wall is the inferior temporal part of the great wing of sphenoid bone, and the inferior and posterior walls are vacant. The mandibular condyle, coronoid process, lateral pterygium plate and lateral pterygium muscle can be clearly shown by ultrasound imaging.
