The Operation Of Liver Puncture Needle Biopsy

Liver biopsy should be performed by a specially trained doctor in the hospital. At present, the most commonly used method is the "one second" liver puncture needle method. The specimen obtained by puncture is 1 to 2 cm long and about 1 mm in diameter. It is first placed on absorbent paper, then fixed in 10% formaldehyde and sent to the pathology department for examination. The advantage of this method is that the puncture needle stays in the liver for a short time, the operation method is easier and safer, and the degree of discomfort the patient feels is less than other methods. The main disadvantage is the high failure rate in liver fibrosis.

In 1982, it was reported that a transvenous approach was used for liver puncture. The catheter was inserted into the right internal jugular vein, and under the guidance of X-rays, it reached the hepatic vein through the right atrium. Then insert a puncture needle through this catheter to aspirate liver tissue. This method is suitable for patients with bleeding tendency, and the technical requirements are more complicated.
