Modern arthroscopic shavers generally employ the "Tube-in-Tube" rotating cutting principle: the outer tube remains stationary while the inner tube-with a window and serrated cutting edge-rotates at high speed. Tissue enters through the outer tube window, is severed by the inner serrations, and is suctioned out through the hollow inner tube. Building on this classic design, Manners Technology advances manufacturing tolerances to ±0.01mm via 5-axis laser cutting and precision sliding-head turning, significantly improving cutting efficiency and tactile smoothness.
The outer tube is typically made of SUS304 or SUS316L seamless tubing, with the proximal end connecting to the handpiece suction port and the distal end featuring a CNC-chamfered window to protect articular cartilage. Manners Technology uses a 5-axis fiber laser system to cut the suction window, side ports, and pre-bent geometry on the outer tube. Kerf width is controllable at 15μm–30μm with minimal heat-affected zone (HAZ); window edges require no secondary polishing to achieve a smooth, non-sharp finish-crucial for preventing accidental cartilage scratches.
The inner tube is the technical core: Manners Technology first uses a Citizen L12-1M7 sliding-head lathe to bore the 17-4PH or other high-hardness stainless tube (ensuring a smooth, low-resistance inner lumen), then grinds the serrated cutting window on the same workpiece. For curved shavers (Curved Blade), the inner tube is pre-bent using a proprietary process before laser slotting, ensuring the serration window remains properly oriented toward the tissue entry direction after bending; the outer tube is correspondingly bent to maintain concentricity. Standard bend angles are 10°, 15°, 20°, or 30°, suited for shoulder, knee posterior compartments, etc.
The inner-outer tube running clearance is typically controlled at 0.010–0.020mm. Excess clearance causes tissue "maceration/crushing" rather than clean shearing, generating fluffy debris that clogs suction; insufficient clearance leads to frictional heating and jamming at high speed. Through CNC outer-diameter finish grinding and runout inspection (radial runout < specified limit), Manners Technology ensures minimal vibration and no abnormal noise at 6000 RPM-an important subjective indicator of premium shaver quality.
Laser welding joins the hardened tip (17-4PH HRC 52–56) to the tougher mid-shaft (SUS304/316L); pulsed Nd:YAG or fiber laser minimizes HAZ, and post-weld electropolishing removes any step at the weld joint. This integrated process gives Manners Technology serrated shavers both wear-resistant tips and kink-resistant shafts capable of withstanding axial push and slight bending moments during surgery.
