As a single-use sterile invasive device, the quality of the Chiba needle tip is directly linked to patient safety and diagnostic effectiveness. International (ISO) and Chinese (YY/YB) standard systems have clear testing requirements.

Geometric Parameter Testing of the Tip

Bevel angle and edge length: Measured by projector, tolerance typically ±2° (based on 25°), edge symmetry deviation <0.05 mm.

Tip diameter/tip radius: No visible burrs or abnormal protrusions; micro-rounding value within process specifications.

Lumen patency: Verified by wire passing or airflow/liquid flow method to ensure no blockage.

Puncture Force (Sharpness) Testing

Using a material testing machine, the needle tip penetrates a standard simulated membrane (polyurethane or silicone, calibrated for thickness/hardness) vertically at a specified speed (typically 100 mm/min), recording the peak force at breakthrough. Peak forces of the same batch of Chiba needles should be within a defined range (e.g., 21G Chiba needle <0.5 N typical); exceeding the upper limit indicates dullness, while too low suggests an overly thin edge prone to damage.

Strength and Rigidity

The needle tip is pressed vertically against a rigid plane with an axial load (e.g., 5–10 N depending on specification); after unloading, observe for permanent deformation, rolled edges, or cracking.

Three-point bending tests on the whole needle verify tube rigidity, ensuring no accidental uncontrolled bending during deep puncture.

Surface Quality and Cleanliness

100% visual inspection at 40×–100× magnification, SEM sampling for micro-edge condition.

Particulate contamination, protein residue, and EO residue testing must meet YY/T 0616 and ISO 10993 series requirements.

Microbiology and Sterile Barrier

Finished products undergo sterility testing and bacterial endotoxin testing; packaging undergoes accelerated aging and simulated transport validation.

When procuring, suppliers should be asked to provide tip puncture force reports, geometric parameter COAs, and batch sterility certificates - important criteria for selecting quality Chiba needle brands.
