Start by noting that a biopsy puncture needle is a structural sampling device, not a fluid-delivery tube. The biggest differentiator is thin-wall tube drawing:

14G CNB: OD ≈1.65 mm, wall 0.15 mm

18G CNB: OD ≈1.27 mm, wall 0.13 mm

22G FNA: OD ≈0.70 mm, wall 0.10–0.12 mm

Achieving these wall thicknesses with ±0.01 mm tolerance requires multi-pass plug drawing with in-process annealing. A 0.005 mm deviation can make the lumen too small to pass a core or too weak to withstand insertion torque - especially in coaxial introducer puncture needles.
