In the battle against breast disease, the core breast biopsy needle is the physician's most common "weapon." However, this weapon is not uniform. From 14G to 18G calibers, 20mm to 22mm throw lengths, manual triggers to fully automatic firing, and the powerful capabilities of vacuum-assisted excision-different designs correspond to different battlefield environments. How can one achieve "know yourself, know your enemy, and win a hundred battles" in this weapon selection process? This article outlines a practical approach to needle selection.

  • Those Pursuing Maximum Efficiency:​ Tend to favor VABB systems. Although the equipment is expensive and steps are more numerous, a single insertion can harvest multiple cores or even achieve complete excision, offering high efficiency in complex cases.

Step Four: Consider the Patient - Individual Factors Cannot Be Ignored

  • Breast Thickness:​ Patients with thin breasts should use needles with short throws.
  • Presence of Implants:​ Extreme caution is required.
