CSE techniques have been described in the medical literature for use in general surgery, orthopedics, lower extremity trauma surgery as well as urological and gynecological procedures. Clinical studies have shown that the CSE technique provides excellent surgical conditions as fast as a single subarachnoid block disease, which is superior to epidural block alone. Using CSE technology, surgical anaesthesia can be established quickly, saving 15-20 minutes compared to epidural anaesthesia. In addition, epidural catheterization offers the possibility to supplement subarachnoid anesthesia, which may be insufficient when used alone. This was recently illustrated by Mane et al., who presented a series of successful laparoscopic appendectomy performed under CSE anesthesia. CSE anesthesia in its series is performed using separate needles at two different intervals. Spinal anesthesia was performed using 2mL 0.5% (10mg) high-pressure bupivacaine mixed with 25μg fentanyl in the l2-l3 space. An epidural catheter was inserted into the T10-T11 space to supplement spinal anesthesia and relieve postoperative pain. In an article related to obstetrics, it was also observed that various needles can be used in different combinations when performing CSE techniques and may have different strengths and weaknesses for different patients and situations.
