The basic components of this Meniscus repair needles repair include identifying the tears that can be repaired with this technique, preparing the tear to facilitate the healing and repair process. Our Meniscus repair needles are best suited for suturing the main body of the medial and lateral meniscus. This technique has been suggested for posterior horn tears as a workaround. We use Meniscus repair needles and a needle length of approximately 15 cm is sufficient. It should successfully run the distance from the medial or lateral mid-posterior skin of the femoral condyle to the corresponding contralateral arthroscopic entrance site. The contralateral entrance must be placed in a low position, just above the meniscus. We can only use Meniscus repair needles, and the spinal pins normally used for lateral repairs are not long enough for this purpose.

The Meniscus repair needles are preloaded with fibrous thread and a long strand is sutured at the tip of the needle (hereafter referred to as the anterior end of the suture.) For a tear of the posterior horn of the meniscus, the Meniscus repair needles are used on the same side with a corresponding small posterior opening incision.
An appropriate entry site is identified on the torn side of the meniscus, and the Meniscus repair needles are then passed through the meniscus and its external tissues to reach outside the skin. Locate the Meniscus repair needles and sutures where they leave the skin.
