True histology samples can be obtained more reliably with the Franseen biopsy needle compared to standard FNA needles. Although EUS-FNA is the technique of choice for tissue collection from pancreatic mass lesions, previous attempts at histological core tissue collection have been mostly unsuccessful. Given the technical limitations of using Tru-cut biopsy needles and the lack of differences between reverse-bevel biopsy and standard FNA needles, a new fork-tipped needle was recently used for histological examination. The Franseen geometry contains three-plane symmetry, where the tilt and include angles are constant, providing an optimized needle design for tissue penetration and cutting. This may contribute to the superior performance of the new FNB needle.
