If our thyroid color ultrasound indicates that the thyroid nodule has unclear boundary, irregular shape, aspect ratio greater than one, and tiny calcification, it indicates that the nodule is more likely to be malignant, and we will recommend the patient to have a puncture examination. Puncture is a procedure in which the sonographer pokes a very thin needle into the thyroid nodule under ultrasound guidance to extract cells, and sends the extracted cells to the pathologist to check for papillary thyroid cancer cells. If the biopsy results show benign goiter, we do not need surgery, just need regular review, but if the biopsy pathology shows papillary cancer, we need to operate as soon as possible.
