Ultrasound Echogenicity Needles
Regarding aseptic technique, using a probe cover and preparing a sterile area at the puncture site will minimize the risk of infection. Although the aseptic preparation of the site can take many forms, the following represents the procedure used by the author. The operator wears sterile gloves and prepares the site with chlorhexidine solution. Place a sterile cloth or towel around the puncture site to cover the area that has not been cleaned with the chlorhexidine solution. Use a needle to numb the puncture site with local anesthetic. Open the sterile probe cover kit and place it on the sterile tray. The aseptic operator opens the probe cover, and the assistant puts the non-sterile gel inside the probe cover, and then the transducer. Then, the operator extends the probe cover along the transducer cable and secures the cover with a sterile rubber band (provided with the probe cover). The sterile gel also included in the sterile probe cover kit is opened and placed on one of the sterile drapes near the puncture site. Then immerse the transducer in the lid in sterile gel and place it between the X and the line to reconfirm the target. Remove the probe from this site and insert the surgical needle into the skin of the puncture site (approximately 1 cm). Return the transducer to the surgical site to observe the needle. It is worth noting that before the needle penetrates the skin, the transducer should be removed from the surgical site to avoid accidentally puncturing the transducer or transducer cover. By placing a sterile area around the surgical site, the operator can easily place the transducer on site when changing the syringe, thereby minimizing contamination.
