What is the one-time lumbar puncture needle used for?

Dec 12, 2022

Lumbar puncture needle is a medical procedure used for diagnosis or treatment. It can be used to detect cerebrospinal fluid pressure, perform laboratory tests, administer contrast agents or drugs, and diagnose or treat diseases of the brain, spinal cord and meninges. It is divided into diagnostic lumbar puncture and therapeutic lumbar puncture. During the puncture, the patient was placed in a lateral position with the head bent to the chest and both knees flexed to the abdomen. The third and fourth lumbar interspaces were selected as puncture points. After local anesthesia, the patient can be slowly pricked with a puncture needle to collect cerebrospinal fluid for examination. After the puncture, the patient should continue lying on his or her side for a period of time to observe any abnormal reactions.
