Differences between general anesthesia and lumbar anesthesia:
1. Anesthesia method, general anesthesia refers to the inhalation of anesthetics through the respiratory tract or intravenous injection into the body, the central nervous system to produce temporary inhibition, so that even and the whole body consciousness disappear. Lumbar anesthesia, also known as subarachnoid anesthesia, is the injection of local anesthetics into the subarachnoid space through the lumbar space to block the conduction function of spinal nerves and cause the anesthetic effect in the dominated area.
2. Scope of application: General anesthesia can be used for all types of surgery, mainly for emergency surgery under emergency circumstances, and when other anesthesia methods are contraindicated. Lumbar anesthesia is usually used in abdominal or lower extremity surgery.
3. Duration of action: The maintenance of anesthesia under general anesthesia depends on intravenous anesthesia or inhalation anesthesia to prolong the duration of action to play an anesthetic effect. The duration of lumbar anesthesia is relatively short, generally 2~3 hours.
