Machinability and general principles of titanium alloys
Titanium alloy is divided into a phase, b phase, a+b phase according to the metal structure, TA, T, TC to represent its brand and type. The materials used in a new engine of our company are T and TC. General casting, forgings adopt TA series, rod material with TC series.
General principles of machining
According to the properties of titanium alloy and the characteristics of the cutting process, the following aspects should be considered during processing:
As far as possible, the use of hard alloy tools, such as tungsten cobalt hard alloy and titanium alloy chemical affinity is small, good thermal conductivity, strength is also high. Impact resistant superfine grain carbide can be selected for intermittent cutting at low speed, and high speed steel with good high temperature performance can be used for forming and complex cutting tools.
The smaller front Angle and larger back Angle are used to increase the contact length between the chip and the front tool face, and reduce the friction between the workpiece and the back tool face. The arc transition edge is used to improve the strength of the tool tip and avoid the burning of the sharp Angle and the blade. Keep the blade sharp to ensure smooth chip removal and avoid sticking chips.
The cutting speed should be low, so as to avoid too high cutting temperature; Moderate feed, too large easy to burn the knife, too small because the blade in the work hardening layer and wear too fast; The cutting depth can be large, so that the tip of the tool under the hardening layer, conducive to improving tool durability. Coolant must be added during processing.
The cutting resistance of titanium alloy is large, so the process system needs to ensure sufficient stiffness. Because titanium alloy is easy to deform, so the cutting clamping force can not be large, especially in some finishing processes, when necessary, a certain auxiliary support can be used.
