What are the biopsy needle methods for soft tissue sarcoma?
Mar 09, 2022
The diagnosis of soft tissue sarcoma relies on pathological biopsy. In order to obtain a correct pathological diagnosis, a reasonable tumor biopsy must be performed. Common biopsy methods are as follows:
(1) Needle aspiration biopsy through fine needle aspiration of the tumor
Obtain a cytological diagnosis. Indications for needle biopsy include large and deep tumors, such as pelvic, mediastinal, and paravertebral tumors, which can be performed under ultrasound guidance. In addition, the ruptured soft tissue sarcoma and cases with distant metastasis and recurrence can be punctured.
(2) Incisional biopsy is mostly used in surgery for definite diagnosis. Larger limb tumors and deep retroperitoneal tumors can be biopsied to obtain a pathological diagnosis and choose the next treatment.
(3) Excisional biopsy The concept of excisional biopsy is to remove the entire tumor and send it for examination, and it is often used for the resection of small-volume superficial tumors to achieve the dual purpose of diagnosis and treatment. When removing the tumor, try to remove some normal tissues together. If it is a benign tumor, end the operation. If it is a malignant tumor, decide whether to expand the scope of the operation according to different pathological types.
