Preparation before thyroid nodule biopsy

Feb 22, 2022

01

Thyroid ultrasonography is performed to determine the number, size, and location of thyroid nodules, and an initial assessment of benign and malignant thyroid nodules is performed to determine the need for fine needle aspiration.

02

Before puncture, routine thyroid function tests, such as triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), etc., should be performed to further evaluate whether there is thyroid dysfunction.

03

Evaluate the coagulation function. If the patient is taking warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel and other drugs, the puncture doctor should be informed in time to choose an appropriate time for puncture to minimize the risk of bleeding.

Many patients are worried about pain and ask whether local anesthesia is needed before fine needle aspiration of the thyroid gland? The answer is no need.
