Is lung nodule biopsy dangerous?
Apr 27, 2022
The risk of lung nodule biopsy depends on the location and size of the nodule.
If the nodule is around the lung and closer to the chest wall, the risk of puncture is much lower. When the puncture needle penetrates the chest wall into the lung, the visceral pleura on the surface of the lung will rupture, resulting in a small amount of air leakage or bleeding. If it is less than 15%, no treatment is generally required. If the amount is large, a closed chest drainage tube can be placed for drainage.
If the nodule is closer to the center of the lung and closer to the great blood vessels or large ducts, the chance of bleeding increases.
The risk of puncture of pulmonary nodules is not particularly high, because the case specimen can be obtained directly, so it is the most direct and effective method. If suitable patients should still actively use this method.
