Is liver puncture safe?

Dec 10, 2021

Percutaneous liver biopsy has been used in clinical practice for more than 100 years. In recent years, due to the improvement of puncture instruments and operation methods, as well as the development of strict indications and contraindications, percutaneous liver biopsy can obtain better specimens and be quite safe.

In addition, in order to ensure the safety of the examination, the doctor will perform liver biochemistry, coagulation function test, blood routine and abdominal ultrasound examination of the patient before surgery. Ultrasound should be used to locate the puncture site, and to know whether there are large blood vessels or enlarged gallbladder around. And explain to the patient with puncture precautions, methods to eliminate the patient's fear and tension. Blood pressure and pulse were closely observed after liver puncture, and observation was made in bed after surgery.

The incidence of bleeding after liver biopsy is about 1/100,000. As the liver biopsy technology is very mature, the operation of liver biopsy can be guaranteed as long as the indications and contraindications are well mastered and sufficient preparations are made before liver biopsy.
