Is liver puncture needle checking cholangiography dangerous?

Nov 10, 2022

Percutaneous hepatocentesis cholangiography (PTC) is usually not dangerous. This is because the needle used for this examination is a special kind of needle, which is long and thin, with a total length of 16cm and an outer diameter of only 0.7mm. Therefore, using this needle to puncture the liver, the liver damage is small, generally will not bring serious consequences. However, the texture of the liver is relatively fragile, and there are abundant blood vessels, and the patients who need to do PTC examination are mainly patients with obstructive jaundice. The pressure in the bile duct of these patients is often high, and sometimes the blood is not easy to coagulate and so on. Therefore, after a few people do PTC examination, blood or bile will flow through the needle from the puncture hole on the surface of the liver into the abdominal cavity. And produce abdominal bleeding or biliary peritonitis, sometimes, contrast agent stimulation and diffusion will cause cholangitis. In order to prevent the occurrence of these situations, the doctor should make necessary examination and preparation for the patient before PTC. If the patient is found to be prone to bleeding and blood is not easy to clot, it is not appropriate to do this examination. In addition, for patients who have undergone PTC examination, doctors should make close and careful observation of the condition; The patient should rest quietly in bed and not eat for 12 hours after the examination. Pay attention to the changes in blood pressure, pulse and abdominal pain, as well as early detection of intraperitoneal bleeding and biliary peritonitis, and do the corresponding treatment.
