How is thyroid nodule puncture performed?
Mar 01, 2022
Thyroid puncture is an ultrasound-guided procedure to extract cells from a thyroid nodule with a needle for pathological examination.
If our thyroid color Doppler ultrasound shows that the thyroid nodule has unclear boundary, irregular shape, aspect ratio greater than 1, and micro calcification, it means that the nodule is more likely to be malignant, and we will recommend the patient to do a puncture examination. The puncture operation refers to the ultrasound doctor poking a very thin needle into the thyroid nodule under the guidance of ultrasound to extract cells, and sending the extracted cells to the pathologist to check whether there are papillary thyroid cancer cells in it. If the puncture result shows a benign goiter, we do not need surgery, and only need regular review.
