Epidural anesthesia complications
Mar 26, 2022
The main complications of epidural anesthesia are as follows:
1. The puncture causes damage, because the puncture depth is relatively deep, about 5-7cm, so after the subcutaneous tissue, fat layer, and muscle layer, the general patient will feel that there is a needle eye at the puncture site after the operation, and the muscle pain will last for a period of time, generally 1 -2 weeks to recover;
2. Nerve injury is a serious nerve injury. Because the puncture is blind and invisible to the naked eye, the positioning and puncture are only based on bony markers and muscle deformation, so there may be symptoms of nerve root injury. After the operation, you will feel a needle-like radiating pain in one or both legs, but it usually heals on its own within 1-2 weeks;
3. Causing cerebrospinal fluid leakage, the patient will feel headache, dizziness, and nausea after surgery. Generally, it is recommended that the patient stay in bed for 3-4 days and not get up and move, except when going to the toilet. After the puncture wound heals, the cerebrospinal fluid will no longer leak. Out, the symptoms basically return.
