Choice of pencil-point spine needles

The needle provides a non-invasive tip design. The special tip geometry results in a low PDPH rate and excellent tactile feedback, allowing for obvious "dural clicks."

The needle is also designed for a minimum intrathecal insertion depth to prevent nerve damage and paresthesias. All needles are designed for high flow rates and rapid CSF emergence.

The size is 22-27 Ga., and the length is 1-6.1 inches.

Facts and figures

The short pinhole distance (1.7 mm) is designed to minimize the depth of the needle tip into the subarachnoid space.

Shorter hole distance (1.05 mm), designed for faster flashback.

The size of the holes is 0.65 mm to reduce the risk of inaccurate drug delivery due to "crossing the dura mater" (average lumbar dura mater thickness is 1.0 mm1).
