The hydrate of Al 2o 3 is commonly called aluminum hydroxide Al(OH) 3. Adding ammonia water or alkali to aluminum salt solution can precipitate fluffy white Al(OH) 3 precipitate. It is a amphoteric hydroxide, but slightly more basic than acid, still belongs to the weak base.

Al(OH) 3 is insoluble in NH 3 and does not form complexes with NH 3.
When Al(OH) 3 and Na 2 CO 3 dissolve together in hydrofluoric acid, cryolite can be formed:
2Al(OH) 2 + 12HF + 2na 2 CO 2 ═ 2 Na 2 O
