The function of capillary and electronic expansion valve is the role of throttling.
But the length of capillary is designed according to a fixed operating condition. Under normal working conditions, the capillary with an acceptable system performance, but with the rise of frequency, the system of condensing pressure rise, evaporating pressure drop, made by capillary system condensing pressure rising rate faster than the use of electronic expansion valve system, the speed of the evaporation pressure drop is lower than using electronic expansion valve system speed. Because the evaporation pressure of the capillary system is lower than that of the electronic expansion valve system, the superheat of the evaporator outlet increases correspondingly, and the electronic expansion valve can control the evaporator outlet superheat at a set value through the opening. For the capillary system, the evaporator using area is reduced effectively, and the increase in export superheat also makes the system refrigerant flow rate decreases, and these two aspects makes the frequency conversion air conditioning system of capillary in frequency higher than design, the refrigerating capacity of the system is less than the system of electronic expansion valve, experiments in related literature up to about 13% less. With the decrease of the frequency, the condensation pressure of the system decreases and the evaporation pressure increases, and the condensation pressure decreases and the evaporation pressure increases more rapidly in the capillary system than in the electronic expansion valve system. When working in a common frequency band, capillary throttling system also has the acceptable performance, after the deviation from the design point, the performance of the electronic expansion valve system are superior to the capillary system performance using electronic expansion valve the refrigerating capacity of the air conditioning system and can effect comparing than by capillary high frequency conversion air conditioning system by more than 20%, 10% higher on average than by capillary system.
Therefore, it can be understood that the electronic expansion valve is equivalent to a smart capillary that can change the inner diameter.
