Which Minimally Invasive Approach Offers A Smoother Journey?

Although breast biopsy is categorized as a minimally invasive procedure, intra-procedural pain, anxiety and postoperative complications directly shape patients' medical experience and treatment adherence. This article compares vacuum-assisted breast biopsy (VABB) and core needle biopsy (CNB) across four dimensions: intra-procedural pain, postoperative bleeding, scar cosmesis and psychological distress.

1. Intra-Procedural Pain and Procedure Duration

CNB requires multiple punctures (typically 4 to 6 times). Each spring trigger generates a distinct clicking noise and sharp jolt, which some patients compare to being snapped by a rubber band. Conclusion

From the patient's perspective, VABB outperforms CNB in pain management, complication prevention and cosmetic outcomes. Despite its higher cost, the substantial improvements in patient experience justify the extra expense for patients with severe pre-procedural anxiety, high cosmetic expectations or elevated bleeding risk. Moving forward, expanded medical insurance coverage and falling disposable supply prices are poised to make VABB the first-choice biopsy modality for a larger number of patients.
