Percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography (PTHC or PTC) or percutaneous cholangiography is used to visualize the anatomy of the biliary tract using radiographic techniques. Contrast material is injected into the bile ducts of the liver and X-rays are taken.

If endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) fails, the biliary tree can be entered. The program was first reported in 1937 and became popular in 1952.
