How Manners Technology Makes A Qualified Endoscopic Biopsy Needle

May 29, 2026

Endoscopic biopsy needles may look like "thin tubes with a slanted cut," but the real differentiators lie in their sharp yet durable edges, clean and burr-free biopsy window margins, unobstructed internal lumens free of metal debris, and smooth outer surfaces that won't scratch or adhere to mucosa or channels. Manners Technology's manufacturing process is fundamentally designed around being auditable, traceable, and repeatable.

Material selection and incoming materials are traceable
304/316L medical-grade stainless steel or NiTi (when required), selected according to project specifications, with material and furnace number documentation traceability-this is the entry point for the ISO 13485 system.

Tube drawing/ sizing + CNC lathe forming
Instead of relying on manual comparison, the outer diameter, inner diameter, transition cone, shoulder, and fillet of the needle body are designed as "controlled profiles." Manners' typical precision narrative operates within a tolerance range of ±0.01 mm (depending on location and process combination), with the core goal being to ensure that needles from the same batch feel consistent by touch.

Grinding (Tip Grinding / Tapered Back / Back Cutting)
A biopsy needle is not simply sharpened: it must penetrate more easily, cut tissue cleanly, and avoid leaving microscopic flaring edges. The process-coarse grinding, fine grinding, and polishing-ensures consistent bevel symmetry and high-quality incisions, reducing puncture resistance and "notched" tearing.

Laser engraving / 5-axis laser processing (key: window cutting/side window marking/labeling)
The size and edge morphology of the "biopsy window" in endoscopic biopsy needles directly affect:

Whether the sample can smoothly enter the cavity;

Whether the needle tip gets caught on the fibrous capsule during puncture;

Whether local enhancement of "echo texture" under ultrasound is required for tracking.

Manners uses 5-axis laser technology to achieve more controlled windowing and traceable laser marking (batch number, scale, positioning reference), making it easier to reduce edge melt residue and micro-burring to a lower level compared to purely mechanical punching.

Electropolishing + Ultrasonic cleaning
This marks the turning point for endoscopic needles to be "safely qualified": electropolishing smoothes out microscopic peaks and valleys, reduces friction coefficient, and enhances corrosion resistance and surface cleanliness; ultrasonic cleaning removes machining residues. The result is a smoother insertion feel and lower risk of particulate contamination.

Inspection & Packing (Full inspection / Sampling + Packaging)
Dimensions, appearance (especially window edges and cutting edges), flowability, cleanliness, labeling, and packaging methods (standard cartons or customized per customer requirements) form a closed-loop process prior to shipment. At the factory level, ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 13485 serve as the foundation.
