How Is Hepatic Hemangioma Diagnosed

Nov 23, 2022

Hepatic hemangioma lacks specific clinical manifestations, and imaging examination (such as B-ultrasound, CT, MRI) is the main method for diagnosing hepatic hemangioma at present.

1.B ultrasound examination

The B-ultrasonography of hepatic hemangioma showed high echo, and those with low echo mostly had reticular structure, uniform density, regular shape and clear boundary. The larger hemangioma section can be lobular, the internal echo is still mainly enhanced, can be tube network or appear irregular nodular or lumpy hypoechoic area, sometimes can also appear calcification high echo and rear sound shadow, is caused by thrombus, mechanical or calcification in the vascular lumen.

2. Contrast ultrasound

For the cases of hepatic hemangioma with atypical imaging findings, selective hepatic contrast ultrasound examination can be considered. Typical hemangioma was shown by CEUS as nodular or ring-shaped enhancement of the arterial phase in the periphery, which gradually expanded to the center over time. The expansion process was slow, and the lesions in the portal and delayed phases were still in an enhanced state, with echoes equal to or higher than the surrounding liver tissue.

3. Helical enhanced CT

Plain CT examination showed a clear boundary of the liver parenchyma of round or quasi-round low-density lesions, a few may be irregular shape.
