During epidural block, when the puncture needle or epidural catheter strayed into the subarachnoid space, it could not be detected in time. When the local anesthetic exceeding several times of spinal anesthesia is injected into the subarachnoid space, abnormal extensive block can occur, which is called total spinal anesthesia. Clinical manifestations include nociceptive sensation in all spinal innervated areas, hypotension, loss of consciousness and respiratory arrest. Most of the symptoms appear within a few minutes after injection, and cardiac arrest may occur if not treated in time.
