Needles used in surgery come in various sizes and shapes, and have different characteristics. In laparoscopic surgery, trocars create communication ports with the surgical environment, and these ports are used to introduce instruments into the surgical area. The needle also needs to pass through these cannulas, which limits the size of the needle. The purpose of this study is to describe the correlation between trocar size and needle size/shape. In order to estimate the maximum needle length that can be introduced through trocars of different calibers, this problem was solved from a mathematical and theoretical perspective based on the four most commonly used needle types and the six most commonly used trocars. The maximum needle length the surgeon can choose, given a specific needle type and trocar. Introducing the needle into the abdomen through a laparoscopic trocar creates the risk of needle deformation or trocar dysfunction. To avoid these complications, the type and length of the needle to be introduced should be compatible with the diameter of the trocar.
