Epidural anaesthesia is the injection of liquid into the epidural space, which diffuses along the nerve sheaths and through the foramina to block the nerve roots. The epidural space terminates in the foramen magnum, is not connected with the cranial cavity, the drug liquid does not diffuse to the brain tissue, and there is no headache or cerebrospinal membrane stimulation phenomenon when the lumbar anesthesia. However, the amount of epidural anesthesia is 5 ~ 10 times larger than that of lumbar anesthesia, which can cause serious toxic reactions if it goes into subarachnoid space by accident. Epidural anaesthesia also can cause peripheral blood tube dilate, blood pressure drops and heart inhibition, can use ephedrine prevention and treatment. Commonly used drugs are lidocaine, bupivacaine and ropivacaine.
