What methods are there for bone and soft tissue incision biopsy? How to use it?

Mar 09, 2022

There are two types of incisional biopsy of bone and soft tissue, one is called incisional biopsy and the other is called excisional biopsy. The former is to take a little tumor tissue after incision, then close the mouth, and wait for further treatment after pathological diagnosis. The latter is a one-time tumor resection, and the directly removed tumor is sent for pathological diagnosis. Most of the tumors are huge or deep and cannot be surgically removed at one time. If the clinical treatment method must be modified after the pathology, incision biopsy is used, that is, after the incision is taken, the next surgery or treatment method is waited for. However, if the tumor is superficial, usually a soft tissue tumor, special bone tissue reconstruction is not required after tumor resection, and since the soft tissue tumor is relatively superficial and can be completely removed at one time, a one-time tumor resection can be performed and a biopsy is sent at the same time. In general, the use of excisional biopsy often requires clinicians to be more experienced, and to have clinical technical support for sufficient margins for surgical resection of the tumor. Otherwise, if the tumor is deep or involves bone tissue, an incisional biopsy (ie, stealing a small specimen) is generally used.
