What is the difference between general anesthesia and lumbar anesthesia
Dec 28, 2021
The difference between general anesthesia and spinal anesthesia:
1. Anesthesia method, general anesthesia refers to the inhalation of anesthetics through the respiratory tract or intravenous injection into the body, resulting in temporary depression of the central nervous system, and even the disappearance of the general consciousness. Spinal anesthesia is also called subarachnoid anesthesia, in which local anesthetics are injected into the subarachnoid space through the lumbar intervertebral space to block the conduction function of spinal nerves and cause anesthesia in the innervated area.
2. Scope of application, general anesthesia can be used for all types of surgery, mainly for emergency surgery in emergency situations, when other anesthesia methods are contraindicated. Spinal anesthesia is mostly suitable for abdominal or lower limb surgery.
3. Action time. The anesthesia maintenance of general anesthesia relies on intravenous anesthetics or inhalation anesthetics to prolong the action time for anesthesia. The duration of spinal anesthesia is relatively short, usually 2 to 3 hours.
