What is the bone marrow biopsy needle suitable for?

Bone marrow biopsy is suitable for:

1. Cytology

(1) Diagnose various types of leukemia.

(2) Diagnose certain malignant tumors: such as lymphoma, myeloma and various bone marrow metastatic cancers.

(3) Diagnosis and differential diagnosis of various anemia, hypersplenism, non-leukemic leukemia, malignant histocytosis, etc.

2. Pathogenic examination

(1) For some parasitic diseases such as malaria and kala-azar, the pathogen can be detected by bone marrow smear.

(2) For some acute infectious diseases (such as typhoid fever) and other sepsis, bone marrow culture can get a higher positive rate than blood culture.
