A similar method is cytology by aspiration of cells, but cytology is less accurate than histology and has a certain false negative rate, while histology has a diagnostic accuracy of 100% on the premise of successful sampling.

The procedure for liver biopsy is something like this. Under the guidance of B-ultrasound images, the doctor holds the B-ultrasound probe and the medical biopsy needle (in general, the biopsy needle is fixed on the B-ultrasound probe through a special adapter, except for freehand puncture) directly from the intercostal skin, reaches the lesion and shoots the puncture needle to cut the pathological tissue, then quickly pulls out the needle.

Nowadays, due to the improvement of puncture needle, the safety of puncture histology has been significantly improved, and the use of liver biopsy is becoming more and more common, while the use of aspiration cytology is gradually decreasing.
