What is bone marrow puncture needle?
Jan 11, 2023
Bone marrow aspiration is a means to extract a small amount of bone marrow fluid to examine the hematopoietic system, which is one of the most important measures to detect blood diseases.
As we know, red bone marrow is the main hematopoietic organ of the human body, which is retained in the spinal canal, sternum, ribs, clavicle, scapula, iliac crest, skull and bone cancellous bone at the upper end of femur and humerus. The most common puncture site is the posterior superior iliac spine or anterior superior iliac spine of the pelvic bone, and the tibia can be pierced in children. Because these parts don't hurt the internal organs and are easy to operate, they are very safe. During the specific operation, the bone marrow puncture needle was inserted into the bone marrow cavity after local anesthesia to periosteum, and a small amount of bone marrow fluid (about 0.2-0.3ml) was extracted for examination. The puncture site healed within 1 to 2 days. In some special cases, spinal process marrow fluid from the patient's sternum or vertebrae should be extracted for detection.
