What are the advantages of breast needle biopsy over surgical biopsy?

Dec 03, 2021

There are many diagnostic methods for breast A, including physical examination, mammography, B-ultrasound, breast duct endoscopy, etc., but the final diagnosis still depends on pathological diagnosis. Biopsy (abbreviated as biopsy) is the most commonly used method to obtain preoperative pathological diagnosis. It includes needle biopsy and surgical biopsy. Compared with surgical biopsy, needle biopsy has less damage to normal tissues, no scars, patients only need local anesthesia, and the cost is relatively low. The most important thing is that needle biopsy can save some patients with benign breast lesions from unnecessary surgery. For patients with breast lumps found on physical examination, surgical biopsy and surgical treatment can also be used at the same time. However, this method is not conducive to formulating a detailed treatment plan before the operation and prolongs the operation time. If the preoperative needle biopsy is a malignant lesion, it will not only provide a basis for further treatment (including surgery and preoperative adjuvant chemotherapy), but also help physicians and patients to discuss surgical treatment methods, such as whether to adopt breast-sparing surgery.
