The main complications of renal puncture needle are:

(1) Low back pain: the incidence is about 17-60%.

(2) Infection: the incidence of infection is low, mostly due to lax aseptic measures, perirenal infection or pyelonephritis, such as fever, severe low back pain, increased white blood cell need to be treated with antibiotics.

(3) Hematuria: the incidence of hematuria under microscope was almost 100%. Gross hematuria may occur when the renal needle is inserted into the calyces or pelvis. When gross hematuria accompanied by blood clots occurs, it should be noted that hemostatic drugs should not be used at this time to avoid urinary tract obstruction resulting in serious consequences.

(4) Arteriovenous fistula: the incidence is 15-19%, and most patients have no symptoms. They typically present with severe hematuria and/or perirenal hematoma, refractory hypertension, progressive heart failure, and lumbago vascular murmurs. Renal angiography is necessary for diagnosis. Most patients heal spontaneously within 3 to 30 months. In severe cases, surgery is performed immediately.

(5) Damage to other organs: due to improper puncture point or too deep needle insertion, organs are damaged, and surgical treatment is required in serious cases.
